Radio One/Houston KMJQ (Magic 102.1) & ‘Madd Hatta’ In Afternoons

RADIO ONE/HOUSTON welcomed the return of MADD HATTA earlier this year, taking over afternoons on R&B KMJQ (MAJIC 102.1) He replaced “UNCLE FUNKY” LARRY JONES. Prior to returning he was OM at TEXAS SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY’s KTSU (90.9 THE CHOICE) and Content Dir. for their Urban Alternative digital station “THE VIBE.”

He’s back after a four-year absence from the company, where he previously spent 27 years as an air talent. He joined KMJQ/HOUSTON in 1993 for evenings, later moved to afternoons, and eventually took over mornings for 20 years on sister station KBXX (97.9 THE BOX.) In 2014 he was inducted into THE TEXAS RADIO HALL OF FAME.

HATTA told SAM WEAVER, “First of all, a big shout out to RADIO ONE for the opportunity to return. Coming back and doing afternoons on MAJIC has been interesting. When you’ve done mornings for so long, your brain automatically jumps into morning show mode.”

“I’m constantly reminding myself that some things are not required. But time management has been my biggest battle. Life is different and requires a different amount of attention, and now it has to be consolidated into your earliest hours and an hour before the show. It’s been interesting and heart-pounding daily.”

HATTA’s career highlights include a degree from NORTH CAROLINA A&T STATE UNIVERSITY, a BILLBOARD MAGAZINE’s Air Personality of the Year award, recognized by SOURCE MAGAZINE’s Top 30 Morning Shows for several years, and received the COMMUNITY HERO Award from TOP 50 BLACK PROFESSIONALS & ENTREPRENEURS OF TEXAS.

In addition to his radio career, HATTA showcased his freestyle rap talents in the movie JASON’S LYRIC and the sitcom SISTER, SISTER, appeared in the film FIFTH WARD, and has released several albums, including his 2007 project “Still Standing.”
